Fibromyalgia patient describes the pain she experiences
Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body, according to the NHS.
The chronic disease may be caused by chemical imbalances in the body, disturbed sleep patterns, or a stressful life event.
Fibromyalgia symptoms vary from person-to-person, but the main symptom is widespread pain.
The pain may be felt throughout the body, although certain areas may feel worse – usually the back or neck. But, you could lower your risk of painful fibromyalgia symptoms by taking magnesium citrate supplements everyday, a nutritionist has claimed.
Taking magnesium citrate may help to relieve some of the symptoms of fibromyalgia, including pain and difficulty sleeping, said Dr Josh Axe.
The condition has been linked to magnesium deficiency, so supplementing the nutrient may help to relieve symptoms, he said.
A Turkish study claimed just 300mg of magnesium citrate everyday could lower the number of tender areas on patients.
The supplements could also improve sleep quality, and the amount of time patients are asleep, it was revealed.
Fibromyalgia patients should consider supplementing magnesium citrate, and also increasing the amount of magnesium-rich foods they eat, said Axe.
Fibromyalgia symptoms: Pain signs could be prevented with these diet supplements
“Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease with the most common fibromyalgia symptom being profound widespread body pain,” said the nutritionist.
“Diagnosis requires a history of widespread pain and accompanying other symptoms, including fatigue, headaches, difficulty sleeping, brain fog, anxiety, and depression.
“Fibromyalgia has been linked to magnesium deficiency and research shows that magnesium supplements may help to reduce troublesome symptoms, including pain.
“Fortunately, there are plenty of foods that are also rich with magnesium.
“Add cooked spinach, bananas and pumpkin seeds to your diet to boost this essential mineral that may help relieve both pain and sleep problems for those with fibromyalgia.”

You could also relieve fibromyalgia symptoms by exercising, the NHS said.
An exercise programme designed specifically for your symptoms could help to control your pain, and improve your overall health.
If you have trouble sleeping, try getting up at the same time everyday, or trying to relax before going to bed.
Avoid eating a heavy meal late at night, and make sure your bedroom is a comfortable temperature.
Almost five per cent of the UK population will be affected by fibromyalgia to some degree, according to the NHS
