Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.
It’s exact cause is unknown, but the NHS suggests that it may be triggered by a physically or emotionally stressful event, such as injury, giving birth, having an operation, breakdown of a relationship or the death of a loved one.
The condition can affect anyone, but it affects around seven times more women than men.
It tends to happen between the ages of 30 to 50, but has been known to occur in people of any age, including children and the elderly.
Now, Healthline has suggested that eating the Asian food tofu could help relieve the symptoms.

“Fibromyalgia can make you feel tired and worn out,” says Healthline on its website, “Eat foods that will give you more energy to get through your day.
“Combine proteins or fats with carbohydrates to slow down their absorption. Choose fresh, whole foods high in fibre and low in added sugars.”
Tofu is a good option as it has plenty of protein and contains at least eight essential amino acids. For every 100g serving it contains 8.2grams of protein, 0.9g of fibre and 3.5g of fat.
It is also a good source of iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin B1, among other minerals.
Tofu, a staple in Thai and Chinese cookery, is made from curdled fresh soya milk, which is made by soaking and grinding soybeans.

As well as trying this traditional Asian ingredient, Healthline also suggests almonds and other nuts and seeds, broccoli, beans, oatmeal, dark leafy greens like rocket, and avocado.
It also suggests that fibromyalgia sufferers should “avoid sweets” as these “only give you a quick sugar boost.”
“Your body will burn right through them, and you’ll crash,” it adds.
Tofu can be purchased from several supermarkets for around £2 or as part of a sushi meal. It can be eaten alone but may be best served with fresh vegetables and whole grain noodles.
Healthline also recommends several other diet changes to soothe symptoms including eating a balanced diet, avoiding meat and dumping foods that can trigger your symptoms such as products that contain gluten.
